Based in Mtubatuba, KwaZulu-Natal, USM is renowned for producing high-quality VHP brown sugar and molasses, crushing over 1.3 million tons of cane per season. Key Responsibilities:
Participate in a structured 3-year apprenticeship programme (Phases 1 to 3) at Shukela Training Centre Gain 6 months of practical, hands-on artisan training in a heavy industrial environment Work with cutting-edge tools, machinery, and engineering technologies used in the sugar manufacturing sector Follow safety and technical protocols while shadowing experienced engineers and technicians Maintain professional standards in timekeeping, communication, and teamwork
Requirements:
Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science (Essential) N6 / S4 in relevant engineering disciplines (Advantageous) Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation systems Computer literacy and strong written/verbal communication skills Previous exposure to manufacturing or industrial environments is a plus Must demonstrate strong discipline, learning potential, and a safety-first mindset
