Fitter – White River Saw Mills

Overview:
White River Saw Mills, a leading player in the timber and sawmill industry, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fitter to join our team. This is a full-time, hands-on role for candidates with a strong mechanical background and proven expertise in sawmill maintenance operations. If you are passionate about preventative maintenance, mechanical repairs, and operational efficiency, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate, maintain, and repair sawmilling equipment across wet and dry mills, kilns, and boilers
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure machinery longevity and operational efficiency
  • Source and procure spare parts for equipment repairs and maintenance
  • Machine and fabricate parts using lathes, milling machines, and welding equipment
  • Install and test mechanical and hydraulic systems and components
  • Diagnose faults, conduct root-cause analysis, and propose solutions
  • Maintain accurate job records and report on maintenance activities
  • Uphold safety protocols and compliance with company policies
  • Participate in rotational standby and shift work, including weekends and December shutdowns

Requirements:

  • Matric/Grade 12 or equivalent (proof required)
  • Section 13 Trade Certificate (minimum N3/N4 completion required)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in a sawmill environment (contactable references essential)
  • In-depth knowledge of sawmill operations (Wet Mill, Dry Mill, Kilns, Boilers)
  • Proven ability in mechanical repair, fault finding, and electrical troubleshooting
  • Strong verbal and written communication in English and other South African languages
  • High attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and safety-first mindset
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
