Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care and supervision for children and youth within the residential programme
  • Implement life-space work practices to support emotional and behavioural development
  • Assist in planning and facilitating life skills and developmental activities for residents
  • Maintain accurate case notes, reports, and documentation related to child care services
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team including social workers and program coordinators
  • Support the development and implementation of Individual Development Plans (IDPs)
  • Ensure a safe, structured, and nurturing living environment for children
  • Assist with transportation of children when required using organizational vehicles
  • Promote positive behaviour management and youth development strategies
  • Monitor and report any safety, behavioural, or welfare concerns

Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Child and Youth Care or a related qualification
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a residential childcare setting
  • Valid driver’s license with driving experience
  • Ability to qualify for a Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
  • Valid registration with SACSSP (South African Council for Social Service Professions)
  • Police clearance certificate
  • Completion of Form 30 (Child Protection Register clearance)
  • Strong computer literacy for reporting and documentation
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a residential care environment

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with child development programmes and life skills training
  • Strong administration and organizational abilities
  • Knowledge of case documentation and accurate record keeping
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary social service teams
