Overview

Recruitment Group is currently recruiting on behalf of a reputable industrial client for a skilled Chemical Plant Operator based in Nigel, Gauteng. This role plays a critical part in ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant plant operations while meeting daily production targets.

The successful candidate will work across control room and plant environments, operating and maintaining mechanical and computer-controlled equipment. This position is well-suited to individuals with strong technical ability, attention to detail, and a commitment to health, safety, and quality standards within a chemical or petrochemical plant setting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor chemical plant systems from the control room and on-site
  • Maintain production machinery in line with quality and safety standards
  • Conduct routine plant inspections and system checks
  • Monitor instruments, gauges, alarms, and plant indicators
  • Adjust valves, pumps, compressors, and system settings as required
  • Respond promptly to alarms and operational deviations
  • Troubleshoot and resolve process and equipment issues
  • Ensure compliance with HSE policies, procedures, and OSH Act regulations
  • Support production efficiency and achievement of output targets
  • Coordinate daily operations with other plant and maintenance staff

Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 12 qualification
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a chemical or industrial plant environment
  • Strong understanding of HSE systems and operational compliance
  • Ability to work shifts, confined spaces, and at heights
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Physically fit and medically able to perform plant duties
  • Own reliable transport

Preferred / Advantageous

  • Experience in a petrochemical or manufacturing plant
  • Fitting, instrumentation, or electrical certification
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
  • Flexible, proactive, and team-oriented work approach
