Overview:
White River Saw Mills, a leading player in the timber and sawmill industry, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fitter to join our team. This is a full-time, hands-on role for candidates with a strong mechanical background and proven expertise in sawmill maintenance operations. Key Responsibilities:
- Operate, maintain, and repair sawmilling equipment across wet and dry mills, kilns, and boilers
- Perform preventative maintenance to ensure machinery longevity and operational efficiency
- Source and procure spare parts for equipment repairs and maintenance
- Machine and fabricate parts using lathes, milling machines, and welding equipment
- Install and test mechanical and hydraulic systems and components
- Diagnose faults, conduct root-cause analysis, and propose solutions
- Maintain accurate job records and report on maintenance activities
- Uphold safety protocols and compliance with company policies
- Participate in rotational standby and shift work, including weekends and December shutdowns
Requirements:
- Matric/Grade 12 or equivalent (proof required)
- Section 13 Trade Certificate (minimum N3/N4 completion required)
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in a sawmill environment (contactable references essential)
- In-depth knowledge of sawmill operations (Wet Mill, Dry Mill, Kilns, Boilers)
- Proven ability in mechanical repair, fault finding, and electrical troubleshooting
- Strong verbal and written communication in English and other South African languages
- High attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and safety-first mindset
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
